Here we are at Manchester airport.We are now in sunny Dubai after finally leaving the country. Some of you have been waiting for us to leave for may weeks and we have had numerous leaving do's. (None to match the final one on Saturday night though!) We must apologise for the lack of a firework display as you all stood outside expectantly but Neil forgot to book it! He also forgot to ask the entertainer to stay! We did enjoy the night though and hope you all did too?! It was great to see friends and family from near and far making the effort to join us. Thanks to you all.
We have now setteld into holiday mode and have forgotten the trials and tribulations of our final days (although I doubt my mum has recovered yet!) Dubai is great and the weather fantastic. Sunny, sunny, sunny and averaging about 36 degrees C. We are staying with my cousin David who is out here working. Their house is really nice and there is a pool in the complex where we spent most of our first day. We were all really tired after the journey so it was nice to relax and do nothing!
Second day and we sprung into action with a trip to 'Ski Dubai'. Yes, can you believe it? The first time I have been warm for years and they take me skiing! It was great fun though even if it was minus 2! Here is a photo of us all kitted out and ready for action!
Home for a quick lunch and then straight out to Wild Wabi, a fabulous water park with lots of rides. I enjoyed the family ride and the hoops but the boys ventured further onto the body boarding and then the Wadi Screamer - an almost vertical drop of about 100m! Not for me I can assure you!
And thats it for us so far - a jam packed first three days. Tomorrow we are hoping to go 'on safari' out in to the desert and do some dune riding, sand surfing, go to a camel farm and then stop overnight in a tent. Sounds exciting? Read here soon for the next instalment!

Just done Sunday Club and was told to check out the blog. Sounds like a great start to your adventure. As Jane said all quiet here this weekend with fab weather so sat in the garden,read my book and sunbathed yesterday!! And not a sound to be heard on the back lane (Harry was on the computer/having a Star Wars afternoon). Keep the news coming.
Thanks for the update - Pilar, Sarah and me were wondering what you had been up to! The photos are great it looks like you're having a great time, not up to much here Greg is having a whale of a time on the trampoline so you can tell Tom it's gone to a good home, keep the blogs coming.
Sounds like a great start to your travels ... not that I'm jealous of a Dubai skyline view whilst swimming! I hope you've remembered that you're travelling to Lake Taupo for a little swim on Saturday 23 February & that it wasn't just the excitement of the excellent leaving party that made it sound like a good idea :)
It will be a long journey on my own (possibly via Hong Kong) ... so if any of your other crazy friends can be tempted by an epic swim - get blogging.

Good to hear that you're on your way. Although it was 24 years ago I well remember the enormity of the packing up and the farewells.
We are looking forward to hopefully catching up with you somewhere in NZ in January so don't forget to let us know where you are.
I'm amazed they let you out of the country with those football (?) shirts on .Hope everything is ok , speak soon.
p.s. is your health ok , you seem to have been poorly since visiting sheffield and drinking proper beer !
